Rationale 1: I developed a podcast lesson to extend a poem that went along with my zoo unit. As a completion of the unit, students will listen to the podcast of a poem and add their own zoo animal and sound that it made to the podcast. The student will draw a picture of their zoo animal and add it to the class book to accompany the podcast in the iPod center. This activity helped the students become more confident in knowing animal sounds as well as gained self confidence in using technology.
KSD 2.K.1 The teacher understands how learning occurs -- how students construct knowledge, acquire skills, and develop habits of mind – and how to use instructional strategies that promote student learning for a wide range of student abilities. This lesson helped students in my class learn from and expand upon their prior knowledge of zoo animals. 2.S.2 The teacher stimulates student reflection on prior knowledge and links new ideas to already familiar ideas, making connections to students’ experiences, providing opportunities for active engagement, manipulation, and testing of ideas and material, and encouraging students to assume responsibility for shaping their learning tasks This students gained knowledge and utilized auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning while participating in the podcast lesson of their zoo animal. 2.D.2 The teacher is disposed to use students’ strengths as a basis for growth, and their errors as an opportunity for learning The students were able to learn at their own pace when developing their addition to the podcast.
