Rationale 1: This letter informs parents about an online summer Kindergarten Readiness Class. This educational opportunity was designed to help children prepare for going to Kindergarten. I created this class to introduce a variety of skills and concepts to incoming Kindergarten students to help reduce anxiety and enhance confidence about attending school for the first time. This letter informs parents about the goals and expectations associated with taking this class.

4.K.3 The teacher knows how to enhance learning through the use of a wide variety of materials and technological resources (e.g. computers, audio-visual technologies, videotapes and discs, local experts, primary documents and artifacts, texts, reference books, literature, and other print resources). The introduction and practice of basic concepts and readiness skills through an online class gives students an alternative way to learn compared to a traditional classroom setting. Online learning gives students the opportunity to be exposed to 21st century skills while becoming familiar with Kindergarten readiness skills and basic concepts.
4.S.1 The teacher carefully evaluates how to achieve learning goals, choosing alternative teaching strategies and materials to achieve different instructional purposes and to meet student needs (e.g. developmental stages, prior knowledge, learning styles, learning differences, and interests).
This online readiness course was created to meet the needs of the variety of developmental stages and learning styles of children entering Kindergarten. By offering a broad range of games and activities, beginning Kindergarteners will have a wide range selection of material to meet the students’ needs. A parent questionnaire is provided to collect feedback in order to make changes and improve student learning.
4.D.1 The teacher values the development of students’ critical thinking, independent problem solving, and performance capabilities
Participation in the online class will support students in using different learning strategies to help practice and learn different readiness skills and concepts.
