Rationale 1: This language arts/science lesson was created for my Kindergarten class as a conclusion of our “Spring Unit.” The purpose was to use technology as a culminating activity to present what the students learned about spring. Using technology to create a class book and video was an exciting way to engage and excite the students to show what they learned and to show the parents and community what is going on in the classroom.
KSD 7.K.2 The teacher knows how to take contextual considerations (instructional materials; individual student interests, needs, and aptitudes; and community resources) into account when planning instruction that creates an effective bridge between curriculum goals and students’ experiences. The use of technology in connecting curriculum goals and students’ experiences motivates and actively involves the students in their learning. Students eagerly create and share their ideas of what they had learned in the unit and this helps to build characteristics in a 21st Century learner. 7.S.2 The teacher plans for learning opportunities that recognize and address variation in learning styles, learning differences, and performance modes.Through the use of different types of multi-media in this lesson, I am able to connect with a variety of abilities and learning styles. This lesson was engaging, interactive and developmentally appropriate to meet the needs of my various learning levels. Students loved using different types of technology in their learning. 7.D.2 The teacher believes that plans must always be open to adjustment and revision based on student needs and changing circumstances.Change is a constant and being open minded to change is necessary to help students learn. Based on the different abilities, needs and experiences, I need to adjust and adapt my lessons to meet the needs of my students. This lesson can easily be revised and adapted to meet those needs.
