Standard 9 Teachers are able to evaluate themselves. The teacher is a reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his or her choices and actions on pupils, parents, professionals in the learning community and others and who actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally.
Rationale 1: In the EDT 658 class, (Teaching and Learning with Multimedia) I had to do a self evaluation on my knowledge of media before we began the class and after we had completed the class. Along with the evaluation, I also had to explain what I learned and how I learned it. This self evaluation was helpful because it made me identify what I knew, what I would like to learn and what I did not know about the various types of media. Through this evaluation, I grew professionally and am able to use what I learned in the classroom.
KSD 9.K.1 The teacher understands methods of inquiry that provide him/her with a variety of self-assessment and problem-solving strategies for reflecting on his/her practice, its influences on students’ growth and learning, and the complex interactions between them. Through self assessment, I have become a stronger teacher because it helped me to become more aware of what I knew, what I wanted to learn and what areas I did not know anything about. The learning that I have gained has helped me to become a better teacher and therefore it is related to my students growth and learning within the classroom. 9.S.4 The teacher draws upon professional colleagues within the school and other professional areas as supports for reflection, problem-solving and new ideas, actively sharing experiences and seeking and giving feedback. With the wide range of technologies and media, I relied on my colleagues and other professionals who knew about the subject matter more than I did. By working together with them I was able to better problem solve, share, reflect and receive feedback. I feel that I was successful in completing this class with the aid of their support. Many concepts that I learned in this class will be used in my own classroom. 9.D.3 The teacher is willing to give and receive help.
During this class, I often was asking my colleagues and instructor for aid and assistance when working with a type of media that I was unfamiliar with. I know when I had questions with something, I needed to ask for help to guide me in the correct direction, I did not want anyone to do it for me thus not learning how to do it myself. This built self confidence and perseverance. I was also able to help other colleagues when they had questions or needed assistance.
